The trek to the falls is for experienced hikers only, it will be over rough and uneven terrain and will likely be a bit of a strenuous hike for most.
If you start from the Massachusetts parking lot, it’s 0.6 miles round trip.
If you start from the New York parking lot it will be a 1.5 mile round trip hike that is moderately difficult.
Or if you want to take the Taconic Trail, that hike is on a 12.4-mile trail that is moderately difficult and will allow you access to nearby Taconic New York State Park.
Swimming at Bash Bish Falls
Swimming is not allowed at Bash Bish Falls. However, there are pools available nearby at Taconic State Park which is only about a 4 minute drive away. You can also hike to Taconic State Park from the falls.
The swimming area is located at Ore Pit Pond which has a separate paddling pool for small children. The swimming area is more for relaxing in the water and less for swimming laps. However, it is a great place to cool off after a long hike.
Camping
There is also a campground with over 100 campsites available at nearby Taconic State Park for overnighting within the park, so plan ahead when looking for this option if you want to spend a few nights there!
Important information for visitors
The park is open from dawn to dusk year-round, so you can go anytime that’s convenient for you. Just remember that it gets very crowded during the summer months and when there are big events like music festivals nearby!
Admission to Bash Bish Falls is free, it is also free to walk to Taconic State Park, however Taconic State Park may charge a vehicle fee if you park there, which will vary by location and season.
Other nearby activities
There are a few other things you might want to do while visiting Bash Bish Falls State Park! It’s pretty close, about 40 minutes, to Tanglewood, home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, so if you’re looking for something fun to do on a hot summer afternoon, you can head to the outdoor concert hall.
