About Beacon New York
Beacon, New York, was originally settled by the Dutch in 1685. Beacon shares borders with the neighboring cities of Fishkill and Maybrook.
Once known as “the richest town in America”, it received this name due to the high concentration of salt-producing families. It is also the site of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway, a funicular railway once used to carry goods up the side of the Hudson Palisades.
